You can do a partial job from one end with a 10-foot brush. The full vent run is usually 15–30 feet with elbows, and the lint past the first elbow needs rotary brushing with vacuum collection to get clean. We do the full run plus the lint screen frame, which is where most house fires actually start.

Flexible foil and plastic vents trap lint in every ridge, sag in the middle, and tear easily. They are also no longer code in most jurisdictions, UL and the IRC require rigid metal vent for the entire concealed run. We replace failed flexible vent with rigid aluminum during the cleaning visit.
