Liner

Chimney liner installation. Code compliance and a longer chimney life.

If your inspection turned up cracked flue tiles, missing liner sections, or a chimney serving a new gas appliance, you need a liner. We install lifetime-warranty stainless steel liners sized correctly for your appliance, plus HeatShield ceramic repair for older terracotta tile that just needs joint sealing.

What do homeowners ask about Liner?

Do I need a stainless or aluminum liner?

Aluminum is for low-Btu Category I gas appliances only — typical residential gas furnaces and water heaters. Stainless steel is required for any solid fuel appliance (wood stove, fireplace insert, pellet stove), oil, or high-efficiency gas. When in doubt, stainless. The cost difference pays back in service life.

How long does a stainless liner last?

Most quality stainless liners come with a lifetime warranty for residential use. Real-world life is 25–40 years. Aluminum liners last 10–15 years.

Can you reline without removing the old tile?

In most cases yes. Stainless liners drop down inside the existing clay tile if there is enough room for the new liner plus insulation wrap. If the tiles are offset or the flue is too narrow, we have to break out the tile from the top — that is a bigger job and quoted separately.

Is HeatShield as good as a new liner?

For small joint gaps and minor cracks in otherwise sound tile, HeatShield works and costs roughly half what a stainless liner does. For multiple cracked tiles, missing sections, or any wood stove insert installation, you need a new liner. We do a camera scan first and recommend the right product.

Why did my home inspector flag the flue size?

Common issue with new high-efficiency gas appliances. They produce less waste heat, so the flue stays cooler, and exhaust condenses inside an oversized clay flue. The condensate is mildly acidic and eats the masonry from the inside. Fix is to drop in a properly sized stainless or aluminum liner.

Homeowners who hired us for this

Bought our 1980s house with no service history on the fireplace. Their camera scan found a cracked clay tile we never would have spotted. Sweep was dust-free — couldn't tell they'd been in our living room. Written report in my inbox the next morning.

Melissa R. Chimney Sweep & Inspection · Carlsbad

Called for a leak that two roofers had blamed on the roof. Their tech ran a hose test and showed me it was the crown — pictures and everything. Crown rebuild stopped the leak the same week. Honest work and clear pricing.

David K. Chimney Crown Repair · El Cajon

Raccoons in the chimney for two seasons. Other companies wanted to sell me a full inspection package first. Draft Pro came out, installed a stainless cap with proper mesh, and the noises stopped that night. Fair price.
